GED Key Points

The GED exam is made up of 5 parts: language arts, writing, math, social studies and science. Students must pass all of the sections of the exam. However, all 5 sections are not weighted equally.

  • Language arts, writing, and math sections represent more than 3/5ths of GED exam points.
  • Reading comprehension exercises will help students pass the GED social studies and science sections.
  • Students who have good reading comprehension, are able to write an essay, can work with data, and solve algebraic expressions, are likely to pass the GED exam.

The GED Exam was reorganized in 2002. For more information about the changes go to:

You can take the GED for free in some states, but will have to pay a test fee in others.
